ABOUT SWITCHTO.NG

The .ng is Nigeria’s unique identity on the Domain Name space, yet the predominance of the adoption of other TLDs still holds sway. The Switchto.ng Campaign is targeted at creating awareness of the anomaly, and enlightenment on the need to use our own identity.

WHAT IS SWITCHTO.NG?

Switchto.ng is an awareness campaign jointly sponsored by National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA)to promote .ng domains. The goals and objectives of the Switchto.ng campaign are to:

1. Educate the public on the existence of the .ng ccTLD as Nigeria's identity on the internet.
2. Provide a forum for Individuals, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies to understand the policies and procedures for registration of .gov.ng domains
3. Provide an opportunity for NiRA accredited registrars who can provide information for domain name registration to engage with the public
4. Promote the use of .ng domains across the six geo-politial zones of Nigeria

WHY .NG?

.NG (like our currency Naira and +234 for country code) is the official ICANN approved ccTLD for Nigeria. Availability of Names is better on the .ng ccTLD than on other TLDs. Branding and Geo targeting of local content to the Nigerian market. Security – Our primary DNS servers are secured and locally managed with multiple Any cast servers located around the world.

REGISTRARS

Registrars are the people and organizations that register and manage .ng domain names on behalf of their customers that is the registrants. Registrars are the main point of contact for .ng domain Registration. Currently, NiRA have 57 Accreditted Registrars.

WHAT IS A REGISTRAR'S ROLE?

A Registrar acts as the interface between Registrants and NiRA. Registrars act on behalf of Registrants who wish to register .ng domain names. They also provide registration renewal, transfer, cancellation, and information update services for Registrants.

WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN REGISTRARS AND NIRA?

The relationship between Registrars and NiRA is that of independent contractors as defined in the Registrar Agreement that NiRA and each Registrar sign.
